ScreenNab ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our screen recording application.
Our Privacy Promise
Local-first by default. When you record and edit without sharing, everything stays on your device. We never see your content.
When you choose to share: If you use the sharing feature, your recording is uploaded to our servers (Cloudflare R2) and automatically deleted after 48 hours. You can optionally enable end-to-end encryption before sharing—encrypted content cannot be accessed by us or anyone without the password.
Information We Collect
Information We Do NOT Collect (by default)
- Screen recordings or video content (unless you choose to share)
- Audio recordings (unless you choose to share)
- Webcam footage (unless you choose to share)
- Personal files or documents you record
- Account information (no accounts required)
- Payment information (completely free service)
Information We May Collect
We may collect anonymous, aggregated analytics data to improve the service:
- Browser type and version
- Device type (desktop/mobile)
- General geographic region (country level)
- Feature usage statistics (e.g., which export formats are popular)
- Error logs (to fix bugs)
This data is anonymous and cannot be used to identify you personally.
Local Storage
ScreenNab uses your browser's IndexedDB to temporarily store recordings while you work on them. This data:
- Is stored only on your device
- Is not transmitted unless you choose to share
- Can be deleted by clearing your browser data
- Is automatically managed by your browser's storage policies
Shared Content
When you use the sharing feature:
- Your recording is uploaded to Cloudflare R2 storage
- A unique shareable link is generated
- Content is automatically deleted after 48 hours
- If you enable encryption, content is encrypted in your browser before upload using AES-256-GCM. We cannot access encrypted content.
- Unencrypted shared content is technically accessible on our storage infrastructure until deleted.
Important: We recommend enabling encryption for any content you consider sensitive.
Third-Party Services
We may use the following third-party services:
- Google Analytics: For anonymous usage statistics. You can opt out using browser extensions or privacy settings.
- Google Ads: We may display advertisements on the landing page. These are served by Google and subject to Google's privacy policy.
Cookies
We use minimal cookies for:
- Analytics (if enabled)
- Ad personalization (on landing page only)
- Remembering your preferences
You can disable cookies in your browser settings. The core recording functionality works without cookies.
Data Security
For recordings stored locally, you are in control of your data's security. We recommend:
- Not recording sensitive passwords or financial information
- Using the blur feature to hide sensitive content before exporting
- Clearing browser data if using a shared computer
- Enabling encryption when sharing sensitive recordings
- Using strong, unique passwords for encrypted shares
- Remembering that we cannot recover forgotten encryption passwords
Children's Privacy
ScreenNab is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your Rights
For local recordings, your data is entirely under your control on your device. Shared content is automatically deleted after 48 hours. If you need content removed sooner, contact us at privacy@screennab.com.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page.
